Whether it is finding fuel to cross the solar system, shelter once people arrive, or making a new home somewhere they can stay — Hephaestus Industry intends to be there.

In the order a settlement runs into them.
Raw materials
The cost and energy of moving goods from Earth to orbit, and then onward, is the single biggest obstacle to living anywhere else.
As mankind establishes a foothold on the Moon and then Mars, we intend to be there to help get the raw materials out of the ground for safe, self-sufficient habitats.

Once people arrive, they need somewhere to be that is not the vehicle they came in.
Grading, moving mass, shielding and building — done by machines that work in a sixth of Earth's gravity, without a supply chain, without a crane hire.
ConstructionSustainable systems
A settlement that consumes a stockpile is a countdown. A settlement that closes its loops is a place.
Water, oxygen, power and material recovered and reused, so people can stay rather than visit.

Three things we think are actually true.
- The unglamorous parts get skipped. Enormous effort is going into getting people there. Much less is going into the excavator that meets them when they land.
- Small companies can do focused hardware. We are not trying to build a rocket. We are trying to build the thing that goes in it and earns its mass.
- Terrestrial experience transfers. Oilfield work, fabrication, earthmoving — the problems of getting material out of the ground are old, and only some of the answers change when the gravity does.
Where we actually are. Hephaestus Industry is a small company in Picayune, Mississippi, founded in 2021. We are designing hardware, cutting parts, and filing patents on our own ideas. We have not flown anything yet, and we say so on every page of this website rather than let anyone assume otherwise. Everything described here is what we are building toward.
